As we kick off 2025, we shine our Employee Spotlight on Survey Technician Travis Stanley - a critical member of our Professional Services’ Surveys Team who dedicates himself to the full spectrum of survey needs that our project pipeline requires. Travis also provides support to our Inspections Division, when needed.
Travis is a Maryland native, born and raised and currently living in Bel Air amidst the Winters Run and Bynum Run waterways, which he says is his inspiration for doing the survey work that he does. In 2023, he joined SMC in our efforts to keep the Chesapeake Bay clean as he recognized an opportunity to do something meaningful for the watershed that allows him to have a nice balance of working both inside an office as well as enjoying the field work outdoors. Travis’s work day varies greatly depending on the spectrum of survey work a project may require, ranging from topographic to boundary surveys, stake outs, and easement plat construction - all requiring a focused amount of critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Travis’s role as a Survey Technician has uncovered a career path full of opportunities within his division. His drive to realize these advancement possibilities is fueled by the example his father set for him as he himself worked his way up in the construction field, beginning as an entry level team member and climbing to management status - showing Travis how hard work and determination can lead to great success.
Outside of work, Travis enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, socializing with friends, playing sports and video games, and exercising. He is also a history buff and points out how his fascination with historical records plays out in his day-to-day as a Survey Technician, as he pulls deeds or plats - some of them dating back to the early 1800's - that reveal a history and tell a story of what the land has seen over time.
